Proudly African – Jewellery Affairs
Foundation Villa Bengel Idar-Oberstein
11 June – 6 Aug 2021
German Goldsmiths’ House Hanau
2 Sept – 24 Oct 2021
The exhibition curated by Martina Dempf showed works by jewellery artists from various regions of Africa. The extraordinary cultural diversity of the continent was reflected in exemplary fashion. Masterpieces of contemporary and ethnic jewellery art illustrate the simultaneity of tradition and modernity.
The pieces of jewellery are part of a collection that Martina Dempf has amassed over the last four decades. In addition, her own creations were shown, as well as works by European jewellery artists that are inspired by the cultural diversity of Africa and reflect this in a special way.
The exhibition was organised in cooperation with the Bengel Foundation of the city of Idar-Oberstein and Prof. Theo Smeets, Trier University of Applied Sciences, Campus Idar-Oberstein.
A catalogue has been published to accompany the exhibition, available as a pdf for a nominal fee of 5 euros.
