4th Sheber Festival Almaty, Kazakhstan 2012
The festival was organized by Aizhan Bekkulova, the president of the Union of Kazakhstan Artisans, supported by “Our Heritage” fund.

I was invited to the festival as a jury member for the contest of cultural heritage, and as a lecturer. The festival was accompanied by an exhibition and fashion show in the Fine Art Museum of Almaty.

My lecture “Fusing Past and Present – Jewellery from the Global Village”, was followed by a master class workshop creating contemporary new designs based on local tradition. About twenty younger and mature craftsmen participated in our collaborative work which produced one over-size necklace with different elements of paper, felt, wood metal etc.

Visits to the University of Arts and to the personal studios of the jewellery artists and their homes intensified our artist network.
